What Are They Building In There?

We are 9 days away from our gates opening for the 2021 digital Mosaic Experiment. How should you get ready? Registration is simple. If you've joined our Discord server (https://discord.gg/ZfuEGHQ), you are ready and everything will be shared as a free experience for our community. Whether you want to simply attend or build your own experience to share, we want your participation and radical self-expression as we burn digitally September 16th-19th.

What are we planning? We are once again building a 2021 burn landing page which will take the form of a map of Reclaim with theme camps and experiences linked directly into it. We will utilize Discord for our main Mosaic hub for hanging out, but those of you creating spaces within the wider Experiment can share content through any interface that best fits the experience you have planned. We’ll simply tie you into our map and detail what you are sharing to our broader community.

We are seeking to include art, music, interactivity, community, creativity, an inclusive environment and just about anything you can dream into digital reality. There will be a conclave and we want you to be a part of it. There will be an effigy burn tied into a single burn night experience for you to enjoy.

As was the case last year, we are working to match the spirit of the burn if not the actual physicality which means we are looking to the community to join us as we cross the finish line (just like we do each year in person).

Have questions? Let us know!

What When Where Guide Reopens

Do you have art to share, fun things to experience, talks to unveil, music to create, gatherings to host? We want it all to be part of our 2021 burn so please let us know so we can help spread the word through our WWW (What When Where) Guide. We're jumping back into the action and reopening our guide for your submissions.

We initially rolled it out toward the end of July but we've now retooled it for our digital burn. You can find the updated version by visiting: form.jotform.com/212437412171143

The WWW guide will be a living documents and will be updated regularly throughout the gathering this year. Unlike years past, submissions to the guide do not close, and will remain open until the end of the burn weekend. As we re-share the growing guide later this week, be sure to check back often as you never know what new plans the community may add to your upcoming burn!

Ticket Refund Details Unveiled

Since the announcement last week to cancel the in-person event this year, we have received an outpouring of messages and responses with an incredible show of support and solidarity for the most difficult decision we have had to make all year.

Thank you. All of you. You have our sincerest gratitude for the love and care each of you have shown us. This has most certainly been a humbling experience and we seriously cherish each and every one of you.

We know you have a lot of questions regarding ticket refunds and we have been working diligently to compile a FAQ to cover everything you might want to know; we truly appreciate your patience during this process.

𝐌𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏: 𝐎̶𝐟̶𝐟̶ ̶+̶ ̶𝐎̶𝐧̶ ̶𝐀̶𝐠̶𝐚̶𝐢̶𝐧̶ 𝐎𝐧 + 𝐎𝐟𝐟 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐀𝐐

𝐀: Under normal operating years, yes. However, we feel it’s best to refund as much of the ticket money as we are able to. We will be refunding all tickets sold, as close to the original ticket price as we can while still enabling us to continue in the future as an organization and an event. Due to operational expenses and non-recoverable processing fees, ticket refunds will be $82.00 for all tickets purchased in 2021. If you have a rollover ticket from 2020, your refund amount may not be the same due to different ticket pricing for that year.

𝐐: 𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘐 𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘮𝘺 𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘰 2022?

𝐀: Unfortunately, we will not be offering that as an option this year. We don’t yet know what 2022 may hold in terms of insurance costs, rental fees, what our event capacity may be, or even continuing public health concerns surrounding COVID-19 and want to make sure that access next year is open and equitable to everyone.

𝐀: Yes. While we are not rolling over tickets this year, we would be extremely grateful and fully welcome if you wish to donate all or even a portion of your ticket refund to help us keep the experiment going. This money will greatly help everything from operational costs to art grants. If you would like to contribute by donating your ticket refund, please let us know by contacting us before September 3rd, 2021 at: tickets@mosaicexperiment.com

Mosaic Experiment No Longer In-Person For 2021

This afternoon, we’d like to address the public health crisis we’ve watched return to our communities over the last few weeks. The rapidly spreading delta variant of COVID-19 proved to be the one guest we didn’t invite, yet here it is knocking at our door demanding our attention. After seeking the counsel of medical professionals, considering new data regarding transmission among vaccinated groups, and weighing every option we could consider, we’re writing to sincerely apologize and acknowledge that the lights must go off once again.

We are deeply saddened to share that we have cancelled our in-person Mosaic Experiment for 2021. Please understand, this was unquestionably the hardest decision we’ve ever made.

We know this isn’t the news anyone wants to read and we’ve struggled with it, but the growing public health risk to our participants, staff and neighbors wasn’t something we could weather. Furthermore, there is a financial side to this decision which we have to acknowledge. Our insurance would have been five times the normal cost and we are reaching a point in our planning where our financial commitments would become locked in place for the event. Were we forced to shut down in mid-September, we wouldn’t be able to afford to burn in 2022, and this would be financially devastating for us in the long term.

We, as a community, have been particularly diligent in embracing Civic Responsibility this year. In that spirit, we simply could not justify taking a risk regarding public safety or our burn’s long term survival as the virus spreads once again. As we’ve watched other events in Ohio cancel or postpone to the fall, we also looked at pushing our dates back into October, but due to scheduling conflicts, this unfortunately wasn’t an option.

We will be issuing further updates over the next few days, including addressing all your ticketing questions. Please understand we’re refocusing our efforts as quickly as we can now. That said, we are excited to return to the digital burn playground we built in 2020 and shift our creative gears toward new ways we can gather virtually, September 16th-19th, 2021. We will still burn together, just in a slightly different way once again. We thank you for staying at our side, being so supportive and showing us that there is hope ahead, even if the lights go on and off sometimes. We will build the world we want together, again and again, in the years ahead.

It's Time To Volunteer

Our #OneBurnerOneShift initiative is in full swing and, if your ticket has been secured, it is time to step up and nab a shift (or three)!

Regularly, leading up to our Experiment, we'll return to summarize where our biggest needs are for volunteers. This week we need to bring the fire in a serious way. We need volunteers to step up with effigy perimeter (13% covered), conclave (15% covered) and fireflies (17% covered).

Fire not your first choice? How about driving golf carts with TACO (17% covered) or you could help coordinate volunteers (22% covered)?

There are many more opportunities to explore and this burn happens based on your participation so let's make this happen. Visit mosaicexperiment.com/volunteersignup and sign up now!

Consent Education and Accountability Project

“Letting Go" Wins Effigy Award for 2021

Who won our effigy award this year? Our art committee has been working hard, narrowing it down and we can now name our winner. That creative burner named Corvus will build our 2021 effigy titled “Letting Go".

Below, Mosaic Experiment's own Everyman sits down with Corvus to discuss his history with burning, his plans for 2021 and his project. It's pretty spectacular.

Also, they tip a hat to our discord experiment (you know, the 2020 virtual burn we never turned off) which you can find via discord.gg/ZfuEGHQ and please say hello to our house bot "Moe Zaic" while you are there.

What about awarding our temple design you may ask? We can't let all our big announcements out at once, right? Check back next week for a new interview featuring that design winner!
