As Conclave lead, you’re the go-to person for all aspects of fire performance at Mosaic Experiment. In addition to coordinating the Conclave performance, you’ll recruit performers and safeties, hold safety and organizational meetings during the event, and work with performers to solve performance/safety issues as needed. You’ll need to draw on your prior experience with fire performance safety, as well as your best communication skills. Since Conclave is a sub-department of Fire Safety, you can expect to work closely with the Fire Safety lead.
Other departments you’ll work with:
Fire Safety, Promotions, Volunteer, DPW, Effigy, Rangers (Perimeter).
Responsibilities:
Pre-Burn
Edit survival guide and other documents as necessary
Encourage participants to join conclave
Try to get an estimate of how many are interested
Communicate with fire spinners / potential conclave members about what they can expect:
Times and locations of safety/organizational meetings
No spinning/safetying without a fire-specific wristband
Event wristbands are plastic. Some performers are uncomfortable with this-- let them know so that they can plan ahead of time to bring arm coverings.
Mosaic Experiment expects the conclave to join perimeter after performing
Bring fuel (white gas, lamp oil), as well as other fuel dump equipment for the conclave to use
On Site
Hold a prop check / fire safety meeting each day (excluding Sunday)
Hold an organizational meeting for conclave on Saturday
Keep an eye out for unsafe spinning/safetying
Collaborate with DPW/Perimeter about the burn: e.g. perimeter depth, location of the fuel dump, location where performers will enter/exit the circle
Collaborate with DPW/Perimeter/Effigy on the burn plan and make sure that all departments are ready to go before initiating conclave
Stage-manage the conclave
Post Burn
Write an afterburn report describing what went well, what didn’t, and ideas for improvement
